National Arts in Education Week

Updated: Nov 8

National Arts in Education Week came to a wrap this past Friday. Read below to see what César Torruella, Executive Director of Arts Education at Chicago Public Schools had to say.

"National Arts in Education Week culminated with a fantastic principal meeting for all Fine & Performing Arts schools! Over 40 schools were represented, and their school leaders engaged in workshops, strategic planning, and provided invaluable feedback for our new Arts Education Plan 2.0: Cultivating Creativity.

One of the highlights? School leaders stepped into the shoes of their arts teachers, participating in hands-on art-making activities across dance, theatre, music, and visual arts!

Huge shout out to our Fine & Performing Arts Schools Adam T. Mitchell Davis, Ph.D. Frank Cademartori, Jeffrey Waraksa, Lilian Blaser, and Sara Simon for leading this inspiring event. Your leadership and creativity are truly shaping the future of arts education! And thank you to the Wells Academy High School team for hosting this event!"

Our very own Dr. Kristin Blathras participated in one of the hands-on art-making workshops. "The productive struggle was real! I had a great time stepping into the shoes of talented art students and teachers while learning how to create my own piece of jewelry. It was such a valuable experience and a wonderful opportunity to collaborate and connect with CPS Fine and Performing Art School Principals!"
